Lucha Underground

Lucha Underground, direct from the new Lucha Underground Arena in downtown LA, presents S4E22, "Ultima Lucha Cuatro - Part 2", airing tonight, Wednesday, 11/7/18, at 8PM ET on El Rey.

Tonight is the second part of Ultima Lucha Cuatro. This is the end-of-season spectacular, and this a the two-hour finale.

Highlights from last episode

Tonight's card features:

  • Johnny Mundo vs. Matanza Cueto; will Johnny be the latest "Sacrifice to the Gods"?
  • Mil Muertes vs. The Mack in a Death match;
  • El Dragon Azteca Jr. vs. Fenix in a 2-out-of-3-falls match;
  • Marty "The Moth" Martinez (c) vs. Pentagon Dark in a Cero Miedo match for the Lucha Underground Championship
  • ... and more, probably!

New to Lucha Underground?

Lucha Underground is a promotion out of southern California that features independent wrestlers from the US and luchadores from the Mexican promotion AAA. The show is an hour long, and features a cross between American and Mexican styles showcased in a small arena with a hyped crowd.

Featuring intergender matches, violence and attitude, Lucha Underground provides something pretty unique for wrestling fans to enjoy. With commentary from Matt Striker and Vampiro, you don't have to worry about some certain other commentators ruining your night, either.

A number of very recognizable faces compete on LU. Come watch with us, and see what the fuss is about! You can catch up with the show by checking out LU's YouTube channel.

If you want to watch, please check your television provider for the El Rey network. You can also check El Rey's website to find out if the network is available in your area. Just press "Find Us" in the top right corner and enter your zip code.

If you don't get El Rey, please tell your television provider that you want the network. You can find a list of television provider's contact information on El Rey's website. Give them a call, send them an email - just make sure they know you want the El Rey network.

If you still don't get El Rey, try Sling TV - here - if it's available to you. It's a little pricey, but you get a lot of networks and one of them is El Rey. There is a free seven day trial of Sling available! Univision and Dish (Sling TV) are currently renegotiating, but it doesn't look good.

Lucha Underground also airs internationally. In Japan, for example, the show airs on Samurai TV. Check your local listings. Typically, international broadcasters started from episode one and thus aren't current.

El Rey is available through FuboTV as well. You can find more information about that here.

The network is carried by DirecTV NOW, too. DirecTV NOW is another service like Sling TV or FuboTV. You can learn more here.

Lucha Underground episodes are available on iTunes shortly after they air in SD and HD. They're also available on Amazon (now priced the same as iTunes!). Finally, catch up on older episodes of the series on Netflix but don't expect current episodes through that service; also, the show is leaving Netflix soon.

One of the many things that I’ve always loved in LU was their cutscenes. I love that the show is like watching an extended gridhouse Lucha Libre film where you get to see all of the fights.

Just throwing this out there, but has anyone cut together all of the cutscenes into one video? Would be cool to see the storyline continuity.

So wade barrett is the Limo Man but what i don't get is in earlier seasons he was speaking spanish and now he's an english guy maybe they just could not find the right person to play him until now.

My vote goes to the Hell of War match from Season 3

I believe now that Fenix will be possessed by one of the free-roaming Aztec gods.

Fenix was surprisingly not shown during the post-show scenes, considering he won his match and is still in zombie mode. As a matter of fact the entire thing of Melissa leaving the building with no update via filmed skit and Dragon Azteca just immediately jumping into the Aerostar Justice League bit was all a bit abrupt. I was bothered by all this but now I see this is anticipation to set up a convergence with Fenix and one of the remaining unclaimed Aztec gods.

It's still not clear whether it's "Catrina's evil", as Aerostar put it, corrupting Fenix into a zombie after his resurrection, or if Catrina has possessed Fenix's body. But I'm going with the former, that he's supposed to be like some lifeless husk, ripe for occupation by a possessing spirit.

It would also make sense since Fenix is considered one of the most dominant luchadors in LU, and the Aztec god evil council will want such an asset. This will make Fenix full heel and he could start looking like he does now in other leagues, similar to Pentagon.

Whether he takes hold of the gauntlet or Matanza's god possesses him, I don't know.

Anyone else think this is a possibility?

Considering how fucking badass LU is, I'd like to show it to my friend who doesn't watch pro wrestling, while we are both blazed. Personally I've watched 1st and half of 2nd season.

Now it's very unlikely that we'll end up watching the whole thing, but I'm sure we'll watch few episodes. Could you, please recommend a good jumping in point or some particular episodes for this adventure? :)

Watched it earlier today before work

-the Fenix VS Dragon Azteca Jr match was good but definitely seemed a bit subdued even for falls count anywhere at the end. Also the ending was weird. Melissa begs Dragon Azteca to show mercy, doesn't try to save him from Fenix after Fenix capitalized, Fenix wins (very surprised because I thought it would be a soul-saving arc and Azteca's 1st Ultima Lucha win),and most bizarre is her leaving the building and no backstage skit that shows what happened in all that. Hopefully this didn't signify her contract expiring and her not renewing.

-was very interesting to see Shaul Guerrero for the first time on a screen and up close. Holy hell did she resemble Vickie Guerrero. And her mannerisms had shades of Vickie as well. The segment with Famous B was hilarious and Chavo involved for a face turn was great. Btw that was the cleanest 3-Amigos I've ever seen in a long time. Great moment.

-Johnny Mundo was the most hilarious with the gauntlet because it wasn't stereotypical evil/powerful type of character and personality, but was a goofy "radical/this is awesome" type vibe we got from him when tempted by the gauntlet. A nice change in personality from the typical possession storyline. The match with Matanza was great and the story told was great. I liked the backstage segment with Aerostar. I guess Aerostar is like Batman now. Pretty cool I guess. Was expecting Johnny to be overcome by the gauntlet but was surprised that he gave it back. Very unexpected.

And it's also disappointing in a way because it ruined a chance for a "Aztec gods power couple" since Taya has been possessed. I'm wondering how things will be handled now that Johnny's wife is possessed. Are these two gonna have matches?

-Btw I half-expected Matanza to win when that ring gear was shown, figured he'd have a tiny bit more, but based on recent interviews and such, it's not too much a surprise Matanza was killed off

-the death match was great. Probably one of my favorite 2 matches at Ultima Lucha. Mack and Mil sold well and Mack's character in the ring was on point! I was nervous when Mack took too long before shutting the casket, but overall a badass post-match moment. Where Mil goes from here, I don't know, but hopefully we see more of him.

-the Cero Miedo title match was another of my top two favorites from this year's Ultima Lucha. Was bloody, violent, and had amazing spots. Even if it was more one-sided than even (Pentagon dominating most of it), Marty truly gave his all to entertain us and will be a future hardcore legend I'm sure. Hes one of those that "bleeds well" and I'm even more a fan now especially after the Reddit Q&A he had.

Unfortunately the ending after the match was kinda bullshit, and it only started being bullshit after one moment: Strong cashing in. I was hoping he'd ask for a defense at the beginning of season 5 to further show his competitive spirit (afterall he wanted to face all 6 other competitors in the gotg match). His cashing in is just inconsistent and just further confuses us on what his in-ring gimmick is supposed to be. If you were at the tapings first, I can only imagine you seeing first him being brave and taking on 7 people but then seeing him only cash in on one beat-down man. From just the viewpoint of those who went to the tapings before the season aired, or at least how I would have felt, it would have been bizarre that this guy who was a badass and demanded to face all 7 gotg opponents all of a sudden doesn't feel like he can beat one man while he's down. It's off. I realize what they were setting up but the crowd chanting "this is bullshit" were right.

-the post-show segments were cool. Matanza got a good ending I think. Bizarre that Strong took the gauntlet and broke Azteca's ankle. I guess the secret society is looking for a new host for whichever god is in that gauntlet.

-why is Dragon Azteca just suddenly forgetting about the match with Fenix? Just seemed odd he was inserted into the main plot like that without acknowledging Fenix. See this is why Fenix should have lost and been deposessed. Would have made sense if Azteca and Fenix joined with the Aerostar/Cuerno justice league.

-omfg I marked out at Stu Bennet being revealed as the mysterious silhouetted man in the limo with cigar. Lol OF COURSE he had to use the "bad news" line as his reveal line 😆. But this is awesome. He'll be a huge asset for LU.

-and finally... SO IS LU BASICALLY "GOTHAM" NOW?? Lol apparently it is because lots of people die and come back now, this time thanks to Aerostar's astrological resurrection power. Not that I have a problem with that. I actually liked that at times about Gotham and still love that show. I missed Dario big-time but it'll be bizarre seeing him back. Plus the actor is gonna have a hard time switching between roles

I said in the live thread during Ultima Lucha's Season Finale, that aside from LU, my wrestling fandom is hanging on by a thread. I've been a fan since 1992, but Lucha Underground is the only company that I really am passionate about anymore. I want this show to stay around. As a wrestling fan on the verge of leaving for good, I NEED LUCHA UNDERGROUND. It's the only wrestling TV show and company that really gets me to react or be excited for anything.

With other wrestling companies, it was always easy. Buy shirts, go to the live shows if you can, etc. But Lucha Underground is different. What can we do to make sure El Rey, Robert Rodriguez and whomever are the decision makers, keep Lucha Underground around for Season 5 and beyond?

The Season 4 Lucha Underground finale airs tonight, but don’t hold your breath waiting to find out if they’ll be back.

“I don’t know anything about season 5,” Executive Producer Eric Van Wagenen told the Masks, Mats & Mayhem show during a recent interview. “We survive as El Rey survives. We need them to be successful and we need them to be able to afford to do the show.”

Adding: “I think we reached the tipping point budget wise. We’ve gone I think as low as we can go. And I don’t know that we would try to replicate the business model of season 4 again. And so it becomes a question again of ‘can we find a way to do season 5 without it being cheaper and faster and all the other things?'”

Van Wagenen claims MGM is happy with LU and wants to continue doing it — citing recent meetings in regards to utilizing their IP on additional lucha libre related programming — but he’d like to get a new partner involved first to bolster the budget.

“I don’t think the show is going away,” he explained. “I just don’t think it’s going to sit in this survival mode. I think we’d be looking to take on another partner that brings something different.”

If the show does get the green light for a season 5, Eric and show producer Chris Roach seem to have opposing ideas on how it would play out. Van Wagenen says it would be a reboot in a lot of ways, including the cast. Roach, however, says he’d like to wrap up the storylines that began in the first season before a reboot occurs.

“Nobody is saying it’s dead [Lucha Underground], there’s just not a huge hustle to get it on the air right now,” Van Wagenen admitted. “Good shows sometimes go away for business decisions. Sometimes shitty shows live on and on and on, for business reasons.”

Hello everyone. So, I am not sure if you are allowed to post links to your own content based on LU but I am new to writing so I figured this would be a good place to get some feedback. Have a look at the article and let me know what you think about it and how I can improve on it.

When I was a kid I remember my mom renting the first two Wrestlemania videos at the local video store because she was working on a children's book called "Frankie the Fighting Ferret" and needed to research wrestling and the moves.

I watched them and got super into wrestling for several years the way only a kid can get into a thing. I used to buy those pink MUSCLE toys, if anybody remembers those, and I made a wrestling ring out of a cardboard box, some colored rubber bands, and some nails (you could even flip the box over for "steel cage" matches).

At the height of my fandom my dad got tickets to Summerslam in Philly (1990) - seats in the very back row at the very top of the Spectrum. It was awesome. My dad still says the loudest noise he has ever heard was the sound the crowd made when Hulk Hogan appeared. I was 11.

As time passed, my interest in wrestling slowly waned until it was gone.

Fast forward many years to Lucha Underground appearing on Netflix. I figured what the hell, I'll check out a few episodes. As I watched it was amazed at how different it was compared to what I remembered, but there was one major similarity - watching it made me feel the way I did when I was a kid all those years ago. The excitement at the twists and turns in the storytelling, the joyful highs and despairing lows of the individual matches, and the go for broke character arcs of time traveling space men and dragon people really recaptured for me what it was like to believe in wrestling.

I'm 40 now, and I've continued watching through Amazon Video subscriptions for seasons 3 and 4. Just finished watching part 1 of Ultima Lucha Cuatro and I'm amazed at the risks the wrestlers are willing to take and how much they are willing to give to entertain the fans when Ultima Lucha time comes around.

This is a long way of saying I'm really thankful for Lucha Underground and its ability to make me feel like a kid. So, thanks Lucha Underground.

PS - Thanks to the folks in this subreddit for giving me a place to lurk and see reactions to the episodes - makes it feel like it's not just me watching by myself once a week.

Based on what EVW said about season 5 on MMM Show being a reboot of sorts. Could we see Aerostar restart the timeline ala Jojo's bizarre adventure pt 6.

The universe is reset and though it has some reoccuring characters it is changed. With tons of talent leaving and some changed(cuerno unmasked) could we see this happening for season 5?

I think he’ll come out and reveal himself as Dario, and that he was disguised because someone is after him.
